Organisation type: Research Institute
About the partner:
Fraunhofer ITEM is part of the Fraunhofer research organisation. Based in Hanover, Germany, the institute works to protect people and the environment from health hazards, with a particular focus on lung health and inhalation.
Its chemical safety expertise includes toxicological testing, exposure assessment, analytical methods, regulatory research and risk assessment. The institute evaluates risks associated with chemical substances and their use in products and industrial processes.
Role in BRISA:
Hazard and risk assessment of airborne carcinogens and emerging pollutants
Fraunhofer ITEM assesses the health risks associated with chemical substances and airborne particles in the workplace. It carries out toxicological and safety evaluations of new materials developed in line with SSbD principles.
Acting as a scientific safety adviser, the institute supports the development of BRISA’s exposure reduction solutions. It helps identify potential health risks at an early stage, evaluate them using scientific evidence and recommend measures for safe implementation. This work integrates safety considerations into technological development throughout the project.
